  1. Shuyin says:

LOOOOOOOOOL nice one^^ but 10 penny for hot water? just give it for free

  2. Zer0_Boy says:

This happened to me too, but in this case I was the customer. I had to pay five cents for a tiny screw, but I didn’t have any change. So maybe the customer in this comic didn’t have any change either.

  3. ew says:

    Egh, who drinks hot water?

    • Mere says:

The customer in question might have had their own tea bags with them. When I worked at a cafe, sometimes customers would come in wanting to make their own tea, so they would just ask me for a small cup of hot water. We’d give it to them for free, though.

  4. methiris says:

Why would the worker care. It isn’t like credit cards are that hard to work with.

  5. Guy says:

That’s what you get for charging for water.

  6. derpderp says:

    charging for water? Thats Racist!

  7. lrn2internet says:

Happened to me at my job once. Some dude looked through his wallet full of cash to grab a credit card to pay for a 25 cent cup of nacho cheese.

  8. pokewarrior says:

    usually is more expensive

  9. archie says:

Heh, I did smoething like this once. Bought a 17p bottle of water at the supermarket and realized I hadn’t brought any cash.

  10. Bobby Joe says:

It’s really predictable when the “derp” face is used for someone doing a dumb thing. You know someone’s about to do something stupid (or is already doing something stupid) when the “derp” face is used.

  11. Agni says:

The reason why the cashier/clerk/etc didn’t want to take the card, is simple:

A card takes 10x longer than cash to process.

I would know this, being a cashier myself. I can complete a cash transaction in less than 20 seconds, even faster if it is a single bill being given, or exact change.

    A credit card, though…

    You have to swipe it.
You have to punch in the amount.
    You have to hit enter.
It has to connect to a server (5-10 seconds alone)
It has to print a receipt.

And THEN you’re done, a good 45-60 seconds later, at least.

Some stores like Wal*Mart have those card machines that customers can swipe their own cards, but MANY stores/bars/etc do not.

Cash is almost always faster and easier, especially for a small transaction. I get annoyed too, when people somehow trip over themselves and forget their wallet (how did they DRIVE to the store without their drivers’ license!? good thing they didn’t get pulled over!) and want to use a credit card for a single, cheap item.

Thankfully, we have a $5 minimum purchase rule, and ooo boy do people complain when they can’t use their credit card to buy a newspaper, book of matches, a single pack of .35 gum, etc.

    • Mackenzee says:

THIS^ I work at a cafe, and we do indeed have to charge for the cup. The dude wanted the cup of hot water for tea. There was a penny jar OVERFLOWING with pennies right next to him. And, the way it actually went down, is that I drug the penny jar over and counted out the pennies out before giving him his cup. Petty? Maybe.

    • shin0bi272 says:

At the fast food joints (at least here in america) they dont ask you to sign anything or put in your pin they just swipe it and hand you your receipt. so its not only more convenient its also faster and i dont have to carry cash.

    • emi says:

It’s against Visa/MC/Discover regulations to have a $5 minimum and your store could be charged a $500 fine for attempting to enforce one. I didn’t think stores still tried to do that, weird!

    • DevinJ says:

COmpletely untrue. In many places, any transaction under $25 doesn’t require a signature or a PIN. It’s literally, Swipe the card and hand it back.

      Stop lying…

  12. neohemp says:

    Some people don’t carry cash because they don’t want to get R O B B E D of it

    • Agni says:

There are other things that you carry on your person that are worse than cash to get stolen.

SS card, Photo ID, credit cards, etc.

Especially if you get pickpocketed, then you don’t KNOW it is stolen until the robber has had a chance to use your cards, or if the theft happens sometime the banks are closed and you can’t call them.

Carrying around $20 isn’t that big of a loss if you get robbed. Heck, sometimes NOT having any cash might anger a robber into killing you instead. *shrugs*

  13. TheTossedCone says:

You need a big sign saying NO CARDS FOR UNDER 5$ PURCHASES

  14. Jukantos says:

never has last panel cute success face been more appropiate

  15. Edison T. Allere says:

Don’t most places have a thing where you can’t use a card for purchases under a certain amount?

  16. natalie says:

I don’t consider that a bad thing! I almost never have coins on me and I only carry a $20 in case I need it (who wants to use a $20 for a 10 cent purchase). So using my credit card would be the only option.

plus it makes it easier for the cashier because they don’t have to make change.

    • Hapax says:

It may be easier for you, but don’t delude yourself into thinking that cashiers prefer cards. Cards take a lot longer.

      • DevinJ says:

Another lie. Most transactions under $25 don’t require a signature or a PIN. It’s literally swipe and go.

        Stop lying…

  17. Dibz says:

The face off made me lol

  18. Karnezar says:

I almost never carry cash on me.

  19. trollimusprime says:

    lol your country is poor.

  20. Hapax says:

It’s worse when someone buys a $1.05 drink with a hundred dollar bill. That always pisses me off because if I’m at the beginning of my shift, they clear out all of my change.
